I really like this one! Much more affordable than Century, my all-time favourite, but still very, very good. Maktub is the party spirit from the jazz age with a clean, fresh taste and plenty of buzz. Recommended.

Perhaps the only fault of Doubs Mystique is its relatively low thujone content -- so don't expect to dance with the Fairy :-) But if you drink absinthe for the taste alone, you will not be disappointed.

I confess. Yes, Absinthium 1792 is a rather cheap, artificially coloured oil mix, but I still like the taste and do drink it from time to time. Louches nicely, which is not at all usual for an absinthe of this class.

I enjoyed it when I had it and was upset that it wasn’t sold anymore.
I have a third of a bottle left and can’t bring myself to drink it..
Would love to find another.

Hi Tommie!
Thank you for your comment – can you recall what it tasted like? Thanks

Century was nice, it was the first Absinth I had experienced.
I drank about 4 shots worth the first time and just remember sitting there and my wife just laughed and asked if I was alright. She said she asked that because I had a constant smile on my face. (Honestly wasn’t aware at the time till I stood up and looked in the mirror.)
Overall a strong sense of well being and clarity.. The best part was that the next morning I woke up 10 mins before the alarm went off and literally hopped out of bed. I felt outstanding.. It was the exact opposite of a hangover.
I was kinda upset when I went out to find more and it wasn’t being distributed. I have a third of a bottle , had gotten two bottles for Christmas, left, as said above, and I just can’t bring myself to drink it.

On taste.
I am not a fan of licorice but found that one shot with three waters and two sugar cubes to be a nice little drink.
Most of the time I would put the sugar in a double shot glass and slam it. (Not the most refined method, but to each his or her own.) I had a friend that wanted to do a shot and he didn’t have sugar… He used splenda…. Oh.. My.. God.. It was vile.. and vile doesn’t do that particular experience justice.

Oh.. That part about hopping out of bed doesn’t sound like all that.. But.. If you knew how hard it is for me to crawl out of bed in the morning..
My wife sat up with a scared look asking “What’s wrong?! What’s wrong?!”
It was kinda funny.

You drink it neat!
Drop some ice cubes in it next time – the oils need water to come out of the alcohol. I have never drank an absinth neat…not true once and ONLY once. I should think that a very high thujone absinth (like this one) is going to have a considerably more bitter taste than a sugared new age absinthe with little or no thujone.
Water or ice is essential in my opinion.
I’ll see if I can find out about Century, and let you know if there is still any around anywhere.

I know this sounds weird, but, I tried one drink with warm water. The flavor seemed to fill out more.
In the same way a pale ale gets more “expression” as it reaches room tempature. The cold seems to suppress some of the organic flavor.
